He could keep Koschei safe and a huge part of that might just be not letting Jack meet him, at the very least not before he could brief him on everything.

He stopped by the console and entered the coordinates of a market where he expected to get a lot of what the Master had written down on the list. Test? Oh, right. How about that? "Er. Well, more or less." He stroked the TARDIS console and smiled. "I've been flying the old girl for years now and she's not complaining." Which reminded him of the last time the Master had tried to touch the console.
