"I'm not happy. As long as I'm with you like this, I won't be happy. So I fixed it for us. Now I'm very happy and completely yours," the Master explained, grinning at how clever he'd been to fix this issue. If he had to suffer being with the Doctor with no possible way to actually escape then he'd make himself enjoy it somehow. Lord, he hadn't tried drugs since his academy days. It was a lovely sensation, he had to say. Reaching out, he snagged one of the Doctor's hands and pulled it forward, placing it against his chest.
"It might have positive effects," the Master pointed out as he held the hand there, listening to the drums as his hearts happily beat along with it. He reached out his own hand to touch the Doctor's chest and then, just like that, the stupid grin came to his face. "They're in sync, you know? And they both match the drums! Isn't it lovely? It's like a symphony. Two time lords following the drums."
The more the Master talked, the more the horror of the implications sunk in. The horrible, terrible sadness of it all. He stared at his hand on the Master's chest because it was easier than to see that false happiness for even a second longer. He finally turned his head away, slowly pulling his hand back and tightening it to a fist. "Let's go to the TARDIS." They had to leave this planet. Happiness patches couldn't last that long, he reckoned. If he just waited until the Master's ran out, he'd not have to be the one to take it from him. He wasn't sure how much more guilt he could bear.
"You... Don't be mine. Be your own person. I wish that was enough to make you happy."
"It is. But you won't let be my own person, idiot. Remember? I was a bad boy, now I have to be on a leash," the Master pointed out as he linked his arm with the Doctor's, barely seeming to acknowledge the sadness on the Doctor's face. It was all one happy blur of nonsenses to him. He was fine with all of this, it was the Doctor with the problem. Playfully, he snagged the bag of candy floss to finish it up, happily shoving bits it in his mouth as they strolled along.
"I wasn't going to be happy about it but look, I fixed it. In my infinite genius. Oh yes, still top of the class, Doctor," the Master bragged as he tossed the empty bag over his shoulder, turning to look at the Doctor. "I thought you could make me happy just being you once. I wish it still worked like that but we're not young wistful children now, Doctor."
Besides, this was a nice feeling. A constant tingle in his hearts. "Lets go somewhere fun next!"
