Jack tried to sound as bored as John did. He didn't want to think of a time where he maybe, possibly could have carried a tiny little torch for him, and he certainly didn't want to think of why that was even a thought in the first place. He had Ianto back home, and for now, that was really all he needed.
John's answer, however, struck Jack in an odd way and brought a lot of questions to the forefront of his mind. He watched him with a scrupulous eye, trying to read him and come up with any answer to the new questions he had.
"You wish I were going grey. If I were, it would mean you finally had a leg up on me in something." Still, he tried to catch his reflection in a pane of glass to see if he noticed what John was talking about. Rubbish, as always. But back to those questions...
"So what do you want from me, then?" He asked, moving to fiddle with the controls for the chamber. "You want things to be the way they were before?"
