Since the Doctor was tall enough to check his eyes even while John leaned his head back he did as much, instantly tightening his grip on his shoulder. Uh-oh. Better not to alarm him, he could still be wrong.
"Come with me, I'll give you an ice pack."
no subject
With a shrug, John kept his hand in front of his nose and nodded, gesturing for the Doctor to lead his way. "I'd do better with some kind of tissue. I mean I don't think it's been hit so what good is an ice pack?"
As John walked, his head suddenly went strange and he had to reach out to grab the rail as everything suddenly became blurry. "Doctor? The fuck is happening?" Then, hunched, John gripped his head as it suddenly began to feel like his head was somehow imploding. Oh shit, this better not be what he thought it was. "Fuck, fuck, fuck!"
no subject
"It's alright, John. You'll be alright." At least he sounded calm. "I'm just going to go to the med bay with you, run some test and you'll be right as rain. Can you walk?" He better, because the Doctor doubted his ability to carry him very far. "Trust me, alright? I'm the Doctor." It had to be the same virus, but it had to have mutated. He hadn't thought it could do that this fast. He had to get working on developing a cure right away.
no subject
John pulled a face, looking at the Doctor and trying to read what he thought because if the Doctor looked grim, it was likely he was fucked. "Cure, you got a cure! Right? Use it! Fuck, I-I can't die because of this," John sneered as he tired to focus his eyes, stumbling when he missed his step and nearly sinking down because it was really hard to focus right now. "Could you just stop the TARDIS for a moment, it's making me dizzy."
no subject
"You shouldn't feel the TARDIS' movements much here. All stabilized. Look, John, remember the people we just saw, alright? The important thing is that you don't fall asleep. Don't you dare fall asleep on me, because you've seen them. You know they don't wake up and I'm not going to let this happen to you, you hear me? I'm not."
no subject
Falling asleep, that was his main thing to avoid. He just had to stay away, easy enough. As they came to the med bay, John steadied himself on the wall and leaned forward, coughing heavily as whatever was clogging up his chest fought to come out. Oh yeah, this hurt like a bitch. "I won't fall asleep. Scouts honour. And you can believe that, I really was a scout. Well, a Galaxy Scout," John admitted, looking at the Doctor with an awkward smile. His skin had become very pale now, sweat coming off him at an alarm rate in an attempt to fight off whatever was in him. "One thing I didn't get kicked out of."
no subject
"Of course they didn't kick you out. I bet you are just great at tying knots, aren't you?" There, what better way was there to keep John's mind awake than being just a little flirtatious. He thought he knew him well enough to call that. "I'll have to take some blood, John. You're not scared of needles, are you?"
no subject
"I got a badge in it," John remarked as he ran his fingers through his hair. Hastily pulling off his jacket, he tossed into onto the floor, desperately needing to be a little cooler because it was harder and harder to breath the hotter it got. Taking a deep breath, he nodded his head and held out his arm. "I'm an addict, you prick. Have a think about it? Course I'm not. Just do it! You've got hours, not days."
He'd seen the progression of this disease, he knew how long he had.
no subject
"So, what are you addicted to, John? Keep talking to me, alright? Anything you want to."
no subject
"I can't think," Wheezing hard, he cleared his throat, slumping back and covering his hand over his eyes because the light was starting to hurt. Light sensitivity was the worst one, too hard to keep the eyes open. And with them closed, it made it so much easier to nod off to sleep. "Turn the light off or dim it. Do something before I have to close my eyes."
Slumping back, he sniffed hard to try and clear his nose, hands tugging idly at his shirt to remove it. Keep talking? How did he talk if he couldn't think? What didn't require thought to talk about? "I don't know what to say. I think Jack would be astounded. Me, not knowing what to say."
no subject
That said he started a machine, standing up to send another message to Jack. He looked at John, making sure he was still awake. "He does like you, you know? All those years he's lived and he still feels for you like that." He looked to the side, picking up a syringe and using it to extract some of the liquid he'd just created. "Stretch your arm out, John. This should at least stabilize your condition for now. Make it a bit more bearable again. I'm developing a cure, don't worry."
no subject
Even if John liked him, he always overcomplicated his life. In a horrible sexy way. "He doesn't feel for me. I'm nostalgia. I'm an old reminder of his past, a bad influence. He can go fuck himself," John said drowsily as he stretched his arm out further. His eyes were starting to ache but he stubbornly kept them open, ignoring the horrible mucusy gunk building up in his chest, causing him to cough violent. "I don't change, remember? I relapse. It's not worth making of note of, Doc. Don't get your hopes up."
He wasn't about to change after a few good deeds.

"When I first met Jack, way back when, I didn't take to him so much. I might have been a bit jealous. Ro... My travel companion at the time. She really took to him. He could be so many things I couldn't, especially at the time." The Doctor shrugged, breathing out in relief. John was looking quite a bit better. Good, he'd bought them some time. "Well. At least not as freely as him, anyway."
no subject
"He makes everyone jealous, that's his job in life," John turned his head to the Doctor, his chest hurting horrible with every breath. Just because he had more time, didn't mean he was enjoying what time he had. This thing was horrendous. Inside, he felt this horrible nagging feeling that any minute now he was either going to pass out or vomit. And neither were ideal. "You should have taken Jack on this adventure. He would of bounced back in seconds. Us humans, so moral, we're quick to be sick."
no subject
He turned around to watch John, both hands on the counter behind him. "Tell me if you feel any change, alright? I... This is going to take a while longer. I'm evolving the cure, making sure it works against the mutated form of the virus. Remember, no falling asleep."
no subject
No, he just wanted him, he never wanted to be him. There was nothing from Jack that John wanted as a trait or a part of him. He just wanted Jack as he was and with him. Which he was very aware was a dumb and useless fantasy. "Okay, I'll say. I feel the same right now, just pain. Lots of pain. And I really want to sleep. Fuck, I'd kill to sleep."
Exhaling, he threw one arm over his eyes to cover them from the light. "My eyes are getting worse, you know? Just like that one guy. You know? The first one we saw snuff it. What an ugly way to go."
no subject
"You have to stay awake, John, you know that. I know how stubborn you are, so don't you dare fall asleep." The Doctor looked at him, swallowing before turning away to look through the microscope again. "That guy had been sick for a while. That won't happen to you. I'm hurrying. I already know what to do, I just have to make this work right for your body. By the 51st century your biological make-up is quite evolved. Good thing generally, not so much in this situation. But I can do it. Just stay with me."
no subject
"If I vomit out my organs and die here, I'm haunting you. Are ghosts real? Like real real not like echoes? I've never really thought much on it but if they were, I very much want to be here to haunt you," John insisted, even if he didn't really blame the Doctor for it, he figured the TARDIS would be fun place to spend his afterlife. New place, lots of rooms and hell, a guy like this had to have a stash of illegal weapons or booze or something. No one was that good in life, especially not someone who seemed so off. "Or maybe the Torchwood hub. It'd be like being trapped eternally in an elaborate well plotted porno."
no subject
Although obviously that wasn't the reason, but if he hadn't had any other, that would have sufficed easily. Jack's flirting he could deal with. Apparently he could even take John's manner. But so many horny humans at once? He'd rather not.
no subject
Tilting his head to the side, he moved his arm so he could look over at the Doctor with a raise of his eyebrow. "Why don't you go there? I thought you and Jack got on pretty well."
no subject
"Me and Jack... Reckon we do, for the most part. But it's Torchwood. I have a history with them. In a way I suppose I am their history. And historically I very often don't approve of their methods."
no subject
And by we, he meant the Doctor. But hey, make a team effort. Then when he fucked up, they could pretend to share the blame and when he got it right, John could feel like he helped. "They're boring twats, if that's what you mean. I mean a sexy bunch, don't get me wrong. Especially that one -- Tosh, I think? God. The legs on that one. Eye Candy isn't too bad himself, actually. The whole smouldering pissed off thing does it for me."
Oh yeah, he'd so go for an orgy with that lot in seconds. Seemed like a fun night. "Their methods are dull and largely ineffective but they're trying."
no subject
"Eye Candy is Ianto, right?" He was trying to keep things straight. Well. Get all the facts, at least, apparently nothing much was straight about this. "They are too quick to kill. They use weapons. Alien technology. Whole bunch of things that I don't condone." The Doctor smiled, arching an eyebrow. "Which I'm aware is all boring for you, but I think you'll have found that there's nothing more exciting than facing down an army of Daleks with no weapon whatsoever."
no subject
"You think they kill too much? Oh please, they try to save everyone. Like you, actually. Obsessed with doing the right thing. Tedious, that is, you can't save everyone," Though hopefully he could be saved. And not in a metaphorical 'became good' way but in a not dying kind of style. "It wasn't exciting, I just did it cause I had to. Didn't have much choice."
John was silently for a moment because the way his arm was over his eyes provided a lovely kind of dark and in that foolish second, he very nearly let himself embrace the nice darkness and sink into sleep. Luckily, John caught himself before he did, blinking his eyes several times before removing his arm. "Are you done yet?"
no subject
As he thought out loud he walked closer to John, noticing how sleepy he appeared. Damn it, this was not good, not good at all. "Er. What keeps you awake? We can't risk caffeine... I don't know, sexual fantasies? Anything, come on."
